The City of Melbourne are coordinating an emerging technology testbed focusing on 5G and Internet of Things (IoT) in Carlton within the Melbourne Innovation District of City North.
A specific focus was needed on 5G technology and working with industry stakeholders.
What we did:
The first stage of the project focused on achieving a common understanding of the goals and what success looked like between the advanced user community, Council and technology vendors. This was achieved through a series of facilitated workshops and tutorials across the stakeholder ecosystem.
Once the preferred Testbed Partners were selected, Astrolabe Group assisted with a second round of workshops with all stakeholders to provide guidance in establishing a Partnering Framework with Industry as well as the creation of a Data Sharing Policy and Procedure for their Lab and Partners.
The work of the testbed is ongoing and will allow the City of Melbourne and relevant parties to ‘test and learn’ in a managed environment, and help inform an ideal and preferred future where emerging technology like 5G and IoT create mutual benefit for the city and the parties that deliver these services.
