The Challenge:
Astrolabe Group led the Australian project management and drove city collaboration to provide support to Harvard to deliver the Smart Cities Innovation Accelerator in Melbourne. Astrolabe coordinated the co-design of the agenda with input from attending cities to meet their objectives. The event themes were Smart City Strategies, Mobility and Transportation, 5G, Disruption, Innovation and Sustainability.
What we did:
The Smart Cities Innovation Accelerator, convened by the Technology and Entrepreneurship Centre at Harvard was held for the first time in Australia in March 2019 with hosts the City of Melbourne and RMIT University. Astrolabe was responsible for all logistical support during preparation and execution. We were the local liaison point with hosts, the City of Melbourne and RMIT University. Our support ranged from event planning, programming and on the ground support throughout the event
The Smart Cities Innovation Accelerator is an invitation-only program for senior-most executives in the public sector, technology, start-up communities, and higher education. The Accelerator program is hands on and immersive. It builds capacity of city staff working in strategy, urban planning, innovation, technology and economic development to establish strategies and an actionable digital plan for their city.
During the event Astrolabe staff collaborated in knowledge sharing and capacity building, participating directly throughout the agenda, including leading an interactive session on advancing your city’s strategy.
Results:
- International attendance and participation across Australia, New Zealand, America and Ireland to share knowledge in technology and urban change.
- A Whitepaper of key outcomes from event: Strategies, Sustainability and Disruption in Innovation
