The bottom line

Building evidence to leverage creative industries and anchor institutions within the innovation ecosystem at Tech Central.

The challenge:

Creative industries are facing disruption through technology and need a skilled workforce to sustain it. Fashion in particular, faces a serious challenge transforming the industry to be environmentally sustainable and viable. Tech Central Innovation District required an evidence base of existing businesses, equipment and technology to help articulate a unique vision for the precinct and enhance it to become a creative hub of the city.

What we did:

We conducted qualitative engagement with local stakeholders, and analysis of quantitative data, to identify existing businesses and understand industry needs. We explored the economic benefit of Tech Central including spatial analysis of adjacent areas, their economic activity and how it relates to creative industries.

Results:

  • We produced a baseline report to understand the strategic context of Tech Central and enablers of skills, sustainability and technology to support creative industries. Building on the evidence base, we developed key recommendations for government and other stakeholders.
