The City had identified more than 100 documents as part of Council’s strategic suite. The City was eager to understand the alignment of the suite to the key priorities of Council, guided by the Community Strategic Plan and other top tier Strategy documents through an independent review.
Concurrently, the City wanted to identify uplift opportunities, including clear objectives, actions and measurements, which were included in all their strategy documents.
Across our work, we considered best practice across local government through desktop review, developed an audit approach for strategic documents, delivered the audit and presented the outcomes for consideration and action by Council. This resulted in the deliverables:
The City has been able to use the outcomes of the audit, and a visual map identifying hierarchy and relationships of key documents to work across units to ensure strategic documents support the delivery of Council’s strategic objectives.
The audit, which included an analysis of opportunities for uplift of individual documents, has been used to schedule strategic document reviews.
A final presentation to Council executives was provided to support further decision-making.
