There are further benefits of residential development delivered by a private developer than just the number of units constructed. 

Our work articulates the contributions of Deicorp’s residential development to the broader economy and urban environment, through the lens of two case studies at Tallawong and Hills Showground Village.

Astrolabe undertook research and analysis of data to develop:

A development benefits catalogue: summarising a range of economic, environmental and social indicators that can be used to express the benefits of development and source information. The catalogue has been developed using sales and economic data provided by Deicorp, and a desktop analysis of development processes and the positive social and environmental impact of development.

Benefits report: Astrolabe analysed and presented the benefits of Deicorp’s development projects for a government audience. This included the contribution of each project to meeting housing targets, the income generated for government agencies, and the overall social and environmental benefit. 

This detailed work was complimented by a brief one-page fact sheet and technical memo outlines methodology.

Deicorp has evidence-based advocacy documents they can use to demonstrate the breadth of benefits private development contributes to the economy and the creation of new places. 

The Tallawong Village case study identified positive outcomes including:

  • Lower transport-related emissions through increased public transport use
  • Integration of green infrastructure and energy-efficient design
  • A walkable precinct that reduces reliance on private vehicles for daily needs

 

Astrolabe’s development of a benefits catalogue also provides Deicorp with a consistent method to quantify and monitor the benefits of their residential development projects across their portfolio.
